It is always wonderful to see the unique treasures of our country being promoted. Big thanks to Mr. Angelos Gregoriades, the Honorary Consul of Slovakia in Cyprus and the Chairman of the KPMG Cyprus and to Mr. Daniel Belansky, the Consul of Slovakia in Cyprus for organizing the Slovak Wooden Churches Exhibition, which was opened in Paphos, on the 07th of November 2017 and in Nicosia on the 01st of December 2017.
The exhibition presented extraordinary samples of sacred architecture in Slovakia - 32 existing and 6 extinct Slovak wooden churches, including 8 churches inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Slovakia’s wooden churches fall into several groups, distinguishable by their architecture and purpose; and some are more than 500 years old. Their folk constructors expressed the perfect harmony of the human soul with nature and the effort to disengage from earthly worries.
The exhibitions were opened by the newly appointed Ambassador of Slovakia in Cyprus Mr. Jan Skoda, who highlighted the close connection between Slovakia and Cyprus cultural heritage.
Both events were attended by several members of the Paphos and Nicosia City Councils, local entrepreneurs, the Bishop of the local Orthodox Church, Ambassadors of Germany, Spain and Iran, representatives of the Embassy of USA as well as the Embassy of Russia, representatives of UNPOL in Cyprus as well as many Slovaks living on the island.
More than 100 walk-in visitors enjoyed the exhibition in Nicosia during the weekend of 02-03rd December 2017.
Thanks to all for the support and for making this wonderful event possible.
