A production plant of CZ Slovakia was opened in Nováky. The new production plant of CZ Slovakia is an investment of Česká zbrojovka in Slovakia. The majority owner of the production facility CZ Slovakia is a Czech arms factory located in Uhersky Brod and the minority owner is the Slovak company MSM Martin. The Czech investor decided to invest in Novaky due to the local long-term tradition of arms production. The factory will manufacture components for dispensers of several types of guns and components for a specific type of assault rifle.

Cooperation between V4 countries should bring work for Slovak armament companies. Defence Minister wants to push forward projects that will help the Slovak arms industry. The Minister informed of this during his visit of DMD Group in Dubnica nad Vahom. DMD Group a.s. is a group of major Slovak arms factories such as Konstrukta-Defence a.s., ZTS-Special a.s. and ZVS holding. ZTS-Special is manufacturer of the DANA howitzers and their modification ZUZANA, Konstrukta-Defence is mainly engaged in the development of artillery systems and ZVS holding focuses on the production of special ammunition. |

Košice airport registered a 49% annual increase of passengers. In the first half of 2014, Kosice airport registered a total of 124.049 passengers, which is a 49% increase. The airport provides regular flights to Bratislava, London, Vienna and Prague. The airport also offers charter flights to destinations such as Greece, Italy, Tunisia, France, Egypt and Spain. |

Poprad airport will restore flights to London. The new air line, which will connect Poprad to London, should start flying from 28 October 2014. The route will be operated three times a week through a low cost airline Wizzair. |

Logistics centre in PointPark near Lozorno will be extended to new areas. In the logistics park PointPark Bratislava construction of a new warehouse and distribution centre with a total area of 14.660m2 is planned. PointPark Bratislava is located directly on the highway network, connecting Slovakia to Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, southern Poland, and further east towards Russia. An area of 5360m2 will be used by Donaldson Filtration Solutions to cover customers from Central Europe and Russia, 2.900m2 is reserved for another logistics provider. About 6.400m2 will be provided for rent purposes on the Slovak real estate market. |

Kovaco announces job creation and increased volume of production. Kovaco is one of the last manufacturers of machines in Slovakia that operates on export markets under its own brand. Kovaco was founded in 1990 and currently focuses mainly on the manufacture and supply of auxiliary equipment for construction machinery and welding positioners and manipulators. About 95% of the production is exported. The company is known in Poland, Russia, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania and Latvia. |

Revival of glass factories in Slovakia. Poltár Crystal & Steel a.s. has invested about 4.5 million euros in machinery and technology at the area of the former glass factory. Gradually it should also start producing glass that will be exported globally.
Another company, LUSK Medzilaborce s.r.o. is the traditional manufacturer of crystal chandeliers in Slovakia. The company started production of crystal lighting as part of the Czech group Jablonecké sklárny (Jablonec glassworks) where the beginnings of glass grinding fall into the 14th century. Products of LUSK Medzilaborce are also known in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Greece, the Arabic countries, Egypt and Australia.

Steel production is and will remain one of the main pillars of industrial development in Slovakia.
The Slovak government has according to the Ministry of Economy a maximum interest in maintaining steel production in Slovakia on the current levels and agrees with the inclusion of steel production among Slovakia’s strategic industrial branches due to its significant share in export volumes.

Volkswagen plant in Bratislava is the best plant of the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen Slovakia operates in Slovakia for more than 23 years. Since 1991, it has produced over 3 million vehicles. It is one of the largest exporters, investors and employers in the Slovak private sector. The plant in Bratislava manufactures cars of the type Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Volkswagen up!, Volkswagen e-up!, SEAT Mii, ŠKODA Citigo, Porsche Cayenne chassis and gearbox, the plant in Martin produces components for chassis and gearbox and in Košice vehicles are prepared for export to Russia. By the end of 2017 Porsche Cayenne will be produced completely by Volkswagen Slovakia in Bratislava. In 2013 Volkswagen Slovakia produced 426.313 vehicles. The export amounted to a value of 6,48 billion euros exporting 99.8% of the vehicles. The largest export markets are Germany with a share of 33,7%, China with 19,9% and the United States with 10,4%. |

Oerlikon Balzers plans to build a plant in Kechnec for 25 million euros. The Liechtenstein company Oerlikon Balzers Coating AG plans to build a plant near Košice for surface finish treatment of automotive components using plasma. Oerlikon Balzers is a major world player in the field of surface treatment of components that increases the operating lifetime and performance of mechanical components.

KIA production plant in Slovakia celebrates its 10th anniversary. KIA Motors Slovakia is as one of the largest manufacturers in Slovakia a significant employer and exporter. Since the launch of its series production in 2006, the plant exported most of the vehicles to Russia (21%), United Kingdom (11%), Germany (10%), Italy (5%) and Spain (5%). About 1,5% was sold to the Slovak market.

PSA Peugeot Citroën Slovakia increased its annual production by 15,5%. PSA Peugeot Citroën Slovakia has produced 248.405 vehicles in 2013, which is the largest production volume of the plant so far. In 2013 the production was exported mainly to the Western Europe (Italy, United Kingdom and France), but also Taiwan, Chile and Uruguay.

Reverse flow to Ukraine was officially launched on 2 September 2014. The official launch of reverse flow of the gas pipeline Vojany-Uzghorod into commercial operation will contribute to enhancing the energy security of Ukraine. Reverse gas supplies from Poland, Hungary and Slovakia will help Ukraine diversify its energy sources. Slovakia is 100% dependent on the import of primary energy sources and thus has an understanding for issues like energy security and diversification of energy supplies. Eustream is the operator of gas transportation network in Slovakia. Its main task is to transport natural gas to Slovakia and to other European markets. Eustream will transport up to 10 billion m3 per year, which is 27 million m3 daily depending on the market demand. The said volume will be available from early September 2014 on an interruptible basis and from 1 March 2015 on a solid basis. Guaranteed minimum traffic volume from 1 October will be 17.6 million m3 per day. The total capacity of the pipeline Vojany-Uzghorod is sold out by customers of Eustream until the end of 2019. |

Slovak Matyšák wines gained silver medals in Brussels. The company “Matyšák Wine” has been awarded three silver medals making it a total of 36 medals so far. The company once again not only confirmed its leading position, but also promoted classic Slovak wines such as Silvanus and Devin abroad. Once nearly eradicated and forgotten, the wine variety from Limbach Green Silvanus collects one award after another at renowned international competitions. A professional jury in Brussels awarded Prestige Gold Green Silvanus, selection of grapes, year 2013 a silver medal at the international competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Other silver medals were awarded to Prestige Gold Devin, berry selection, year 2013 and Prestige Gold Chardonnay, grape selection, year 2013. |

Wine Prestige Green Silvanus was awarded a gold medal and the title Grand Prix at the international competition Les Grands Concours du Monde Strasbourg.
Moreover, another two wines of the “Matyšák Wine” production were awarded a gold medal in Strasbourg. Prestige Gold Riesling, selection of grapes, year 2013 has already scored in Germany, France and the USA.

Slovak wines belong to the world’s top wines. This was also confirmed by international wine competitions in Paris, Madrid and Brussels in 2013. At the competition Councours Mondial de Bruxelles held in Bratislava that year, Slovak wines stood the competition of 8.168 wine samples from around the world and gained 3 big gold medals, 19 gold medals and 38 silver medals. In the ranking of countries receiving the most medals Slovakia ranked 6th. The prestigious big gold medals were awarded to wineries Martin Pomfy - Mavín and PD Mojmírovce for their rosé wines Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé and to T&M SK for its white wine Riesling. Two silver medals were awarded to Tokaj wines. Besides traditional wine varieties such as Riesling Rhyne or Red Tramin, new Slovak wine varieties of Danube and Devín scored high as well. Concours Mondial de Bruxelles belongs to the five largest international wine events. It is held each year in a different European country. Slovakia is the first country in Eastern Europe in which the competition took place.

Slovakia was the main importer of Czech wines in 2012. In 2012 there was a total of 122.469hl of wine exported from the Czech Republic. According to the agency Agrarian market information of Slovakia ATIS, export to Slovakia represented an 85% share of the total Czech export volumes of wine. |
