Dr. Sonia Ajini was born in Kosice, Slovakia. She is a holder of a Master at Law degree, Doctor at Law degree and an LLM degree in maritime law.
Sonia relocated from Slovakia to Cyprus in 2003. To-date she has been heavily involved and dealt with various areas of law. She is founder and managing director of SONIA AJINI & CO LLC law firm and AJILEX LTD, approved service provider by the Cyprus Bar Association. She is a board member of various Cyprus companies. Moreover, she is also an associate lecturer of an LLM shipping law module at the University of Central Lancashire, Cyprus and a Special Agent of the Liberian Maritime Registry for Cyprus.
Sonia is also a legal advisor to the Czech Embassy in Cyprus and she is heavily involved with the consular matters referred to her by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Cyprus.
Sonia was a founding member, vice-president and director of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Cyprus (WISTA Cyprus) and a committee member of the Slovak-Cypriot Friendship Society. She was also a director of the Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre, its general secretary and company secretary.
She spoke at a number of conferences held in Cyprus regarding commercial, maritime and arbitration issues and was interviewed by the Slovak Broadcasting Association regarding Cyprus laws and regulations.
Sonia received a letter of appreciation from the ex Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mr. Miroslav Lajcak regarding her numerous pro bono assistance provided to Slovaks living and working in Cyprus.
Last but not least, in 2019 she received a finalist award at the Kivotos Golden Lady Award in the category of corporate entrepreneur (held in Cyprus) and she was voted amongst 100 top women in shipping for 2019 and 2020.
Sonia was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2021.
